Moving out of a rented home can be stressful, but with the right preparation you can make sure your property is returned in excellent condition — helping to protect your deposit and leaving on good terms with your landlord.
At 247 Property Services, we’ve put together this checkout cleaning guide to help tenants understand what’s expected and avoid common pitfalls.
Work room by room, starting at the top (ceilings) and working down to the floors.
Take before and after photos for your own records.
Gather supplies: microfibre cloths, mop, vacuum, bathroom cleaner, descaler, oven cleaner, glass cleaner, bin bags.
Remove all personal belongings and rubbish.
Dust and wipe skirting boards, window ledges, and shelves.
Vacuum carpets (consider steam-cleaning if stained).
Wipe walls gently to remove scuffs (do not repaint unless agreed).
Clean inside wardrobes, cupboards, and drawers.
Clean the oven, hob, splashback, and extractor fan (degrease thoroughly).
Empty and clean fridge and freezer; defrost if necessary.
Wipe inside and outside of cupboards and drawers.
Clean sink, taps, and worktops.
Sweep and mop the floor.
Descale taps, showerheads, and tiles.
Clean toilet, sink, bath, and shower thoroughly.
Wipe mirrors and glass screens until streak-free.
Treat any mould with fungicidal cleaner.
Do not attempt to replace silicone — clean it as best as you can and report any damage.
Clean windows inside (and outside if safe and accessible).
Wipe frames, handles, and sills.
Dust and wipe doors, especially around handles.
Vacuum carpets and mop floors where applicable.
Clean banisters, skirting, and light switches.
Replace any blown light bulbs.
Clear out bins completely.
Wipe down radiators.
Check and clean behind furniture and appliances.
All rooms cleaned from top to bottom
Oven, fridge, freezer, and kitchen units cleaned
Bathroom descaled and mould treated
Carpets vacuumed/steam-cleaned if needed
Windows cleaned inside
Light bulbs replaced
Rubbish removed, bins emptied
Keys, fobs, and remotes ready to hand back
